PLANNING YOUR FAMILY
NEWBORN SESSION
tips for timing, outfits, managing kids and more!
I'm so excited to be working with you and I can’t wait for our time together during your session. It’s normal to be a little anxious about your session. You're a busy family with quite a few things on your plate and navigating bringing a baby into the world!
That's actually one of the reasons why I put together this guide. It covers things to keep in mind when it comes to how to prepare your home, choosing outfits, prepping kids and more.
Hopefully it helps you feel fully prepared for our time together, but should you have any other questions or if you need advice, please feel free to reach out!

Time & Light
“Is there a good time to take photos?”
If your home doesn't allow for great natural light, please reach out to me about considering a natural light studio for your session. This is probably the most important aspect to get those bright and airy photos you love! The lighting in your home will affect everything! Trust me on this one!
Newborn sessions are best when they occur between the first two months of birth. This is when babies are most fresh, flexible, sleepy, and likely without baby acne. In my experience two hours is the ideal time frame for a lifestyle newborn session. A majority of your poses will include mom, dad, and siblings. Toward the end of your session I will photograph a few individual shots of the baby, then slowly unwrap him/her and grab some adorable photos with his/her eyes open.
To allow for the best light, and a sleepy baby, I like to schedule your session to start in the morning. If it's overcast or very cloudy that day, then your session will likely need to be rescheduled. To get the most out of your session, please plan a 30 minute buffer when getting ready so you are ready before I arrive and your session can start on time. We’ll want to take advantage of every minute we have together!
"What should I have the baby wearing when you arrive?"
You can have the baby wearing anything when I arrive! We will first make sure they are fed and content and have a fresh diaper on. I will then remove the baby's clothes and swaddle the baby before we get started!
